Every PRiME meeting is a forum for sharing the latest scientific and technical developments in electrochemistry and solid state science and technology. Scientists, engineers and industry leaders come from around the world to attend the technical symposia, poster sessions, professional development workshops, networking opportunities and social events offered at our meetings. PRiME 2016 will be held will be held in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 2 – 7 October, 2017 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village and Hawaii Convention Center. It will also feature the 6th International ECS Electrochemical Energy Summit on October 2 focused on Recent Progress in Renewable Energy Generation, Distribution, and Storage.

EUROMAT is the premier international congress in the field of materials in Europe. The EUROMAT2017 will be held in Thessaloniki, Greece, from 17 – 22 September, 2017 in the “Thessaloniki Concert Hall”, a unique complex of buildings conveniently located at the seafront of the city.

Special Issue "Hybrid Polymeric Materials"

Prof. Dr. Joannis K. Kallitsis, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Georgios Bokias and Dr. Valadoula Deimede are Guest Editors of the Special Issue of Polymers (ISSN 2073-4360) dedicated to the synthesis, characterization and application of these emerging classes of materials and, more specifically, to functional polymers/carbon-based nanostructures such as fullerene, carbon nanotubes and graphene, polymer–metal or metal oxide nanoparticles, and finally polymeric metallocomplexes.

WORKSHOP ON “ORGANIC PVS”

On Friday September 18th, 2015 at 9:00, a Workshop on "Organic PVS" will be held in the Seminar Room of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Patras within the scope of the DENEA Project entitled “Design and Development of New Electron Acceptor Polymeric and Hybrid Materials and their Application in Organic Photovoltaics”. This Project is funded under the scheme of "ARISTEIA" Action (2007-2013) of the "Operational Programme Education and Lifelong Learning" co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and National Resources.

In this Workshop well known scientists from Greece and abroad have been invited and will participate. Their lectures cover both materials development and their application in systems based on semiconducting polymers and hybrid materials and hopefully will stimulate interactions upon the participants.

We would be honored by your presence.

Sincerely yours,

J.K. Kallitsis

Professor of the Chemistry Department

Gerhard Wegner (Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz) Professor Emeritus of the Chemistry Department of the University of Patras is giving a lecture on  “Supramolecular Architectures and Molecular Machines: Self-Assembly vs Constructs” on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at 10:00 in the seminar room of the Chemistry Department of the University of Patras.

Abstract

What is Supramolecular Chemistry good for? Does it provide the toolbox to develop and design molecular machines? What defines a molecular machine and to what extent serves biology or more precisely molecular cell biology as plentiful source of information how molecular machines should be designed and how they perform? While self-organization of molecular entities has received much interest among academics, the processes to achieve defined molecular constructs are more promising. Examples will be shown and discussed. The ultimate goal – as is intimately connected to the design of machines – is to achieve directed motion of molecular defined entities over distances on the micrometer scale or larger in nonbiogenic environment. Unless this can be achieved, molecular machines will remain a utopic desire. The whole discussion is also basic to the concepts put forward by the emerging field of Synthetic Biology.

Major contracts in Europe and America were secured by ADVENT TECHNOLOGIES S.A. a company engaged in research, development and commercialization of new materials and systems for renewable energy sources such as fuel cells and photovoltaic systems.
